Koco is the only puppy from his litter who was not chosen for a home. As he wanders the farm, clumsy and unsure, he begins meeting the animals who will help shape his world—and learns that one friendly hello can change everything.

A path leads Koco to a sparkling river, a speedy fish, and a wise duck who teaches him how the river brings fun, danger, and fresh water to the whole farm.

When a little boy named Adler brings Koco his dinner, the cautious puppy discovers a gentle new friend—and falls asleep dreaming of what they might do together.

Adler returns with a bright red ball and a plan. Through patience, practice, and plenty of tail wags, Koco learns to sit, shake, lie down, and play fetch.

Summer is ending, school is beginning, and Adler must return to the city. In the autumn rain, Koco faces a hard goodbye while holding tightly to the memories of their time together.
